SEARCHING FOR INFO ON A CUSTOM BOOK SELECTION? (YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE!)
If you are looking to request a custom book outside of PBC Guru’s recommendations, please reach out to your Book Club Operations Manager 15 weeks before the reading period during which you would like to read your custom book.
We encourage limiting custom requests to special events like:
• First Year Book
• All-Campus Read
• Special Lecture on Campus
Many clients requesting a custom book prefer to preselect the book in question, in which case your Manager will announce the book to members without holding a vote. We do not recommend doing this every reading period and encourage you to have more reading periods where voting takes place than not. This fosters a sense of community and greater participation in our book club forum. At your discretion, your Manager can also add the custom request as a voting option against a PBC Guru recommendation.
WHY 15 WEEKS? WHAT IF I DON’T KNOW THE BOOK 15 WEEKS IN ADVANCE?
If you are unable to let your Manager know the custom title at least 15 weeks in advance, we recommend pushing back the custom title to a later reading period. The Book Club Team requires 15 weeks to:
• Acquire the book
• Read the book
• Develop questions and content
• Prepare communications
• Schedule communications
Having a reasonable lead time allows us to practice quality control at each stage of our service. If you are unable to let your Manager know the book, but the timing needs to line up with a particular event, it is at their discretion if they can deliver your custom request.
